CLP Regulation
Definition
CLP Regulation — Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation. CLP is based on the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).[1][2]
CLP identifies the physical, health and environmental hazards of substances and mixtures and communicates them to the supply chain and end users through hazard classes, pictograms, signal words, hazard statements and precautionary statements.[2]
For the wet wipe industry, especially disinfectants and wipe solutions containing hazardous-classified ingredients, CLP affects hazard classification, labelling and packaging. Whether a CLP hazard label is required depends on the final classification of the substance or mixture; containing a hazardous raw material does not automatically mean that the finished mixture must carry a hazard label.[2][3]
