EU BPR
Definition
EU BPR — Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2012 concerning the making available on the market and use of biocidal products, the EU Biocidal Products Regulation.[1]
BPR establishes common rules for approval of active substances, product authorisation, making biocidal products available on the market and their use in the EU. It aims to harmonize the internal market while protecting human health, animal health and the environment at a high level.[1]
BPR divides biocidal products into Product Types (PT). For wet wipes, products making disinfectant, bactericidal or virucidal claims may fall within BPR, including wipes for surfaces, healthcare environments or other defined uses. Applicability and PT must be assessed from intended use and claims.
- PT1 — Human hygiene: skin disinfectant wipes and hygienic hand disinfectants.
- PT2 — Disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals: hospital surface wipes and wipes for desks or equipment exteriors.
- PT3 — Veterinary hygiene: animal-hygiene disinfectants and veterinary products.
