FSC Chain of Custody Certification

Definition

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification

FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification verifies that forest-based materials meeting FSC requirements are appropriately identified and tracked through the supply chain, from sourcing to processing, manufacturing and distribution.[1]

FSC requires CoC-certified organizations to establish management systems to identify and track FSC materials and to maintain relevant production, purchasing and sales records.[1]

Why does it matter?

FSC CoC certification helps buyers verify the traceability of forest-based materials through the supply chain, supporting responsible sourcing of materials such as nonwoven fibers, pulp and packaging.
