ISO 14001
Definition
ISO 14001 — Environmental management systems — Requirements with guidance for use
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized environmental management system (EMS) standard. It provides a framework for establishing, implementing and continually improving an environmental management system, enabling organizations to systematically manage their environmental impacts, applicable regulatory obligations and environmental objectives.[1]
The system addresses areas such as resource use, waste management, environmental aspects, environmental performance monitoring and continual improvement.[1]
Why does it matter?
ISO 14001 helps buyers assess whether a manufacturer has integrated environmental management into day-to-day operations, rather than relying only on isolated environmental measures.
For international customers that prioritize ESG, sustainable procurement and supply chain environmental performance, it is also an important reference for evaluating a supplier's environmental management capabilities.
